Welcome to Boundless by Amita’s CHAAL, MEANING THE WAY ONE MOVES OR WALKS IN HINDI. ROOTED IN EASTERN AND WESTERN PRACTICES, Boundless by Amita is a DANCE COMPANY founded by Amita Batra with the goal to revive, EXPLORE AND EXPERIMENT IN THE REALM OF expression THROUGH MOVEMENT AND BODY LANGUAGE. This IMMERSIVE SHOW aims to CONVEY BODY LANGUAGE AS ART, DOING IT IN THE BEST PLACE POSSIBLE FOR THAT - AN ART GALLERY. THIS EXPERIENCE NOT ONLY BLURS THE LINES BETWEEN AUDIENCE AND DANCER, BUT WHAT THE POWER OF DANCE HAS TO MEAN. PART 1 OF THE SHOW FEATURES SEVERAL WALK-THRU EXHIBITS WHILE PART 2 WILL BE A MORE TRADITIONAL PERFORMANCE. ENJOY AND BE ONE WITH YOUR OWN CHAAL.
MEET AMITA
Amita Batra is a story-driven artist who aims to be a testament to the fact that art is as boundless as the human spirit that embodies it. whether it be performing, choreographing, creating movement for stage, camera, sharing stories of our darknesses, embodying tales of laughter, amita aspires to TELL it all WITHOUT EVER SAYING A WORD. Formally trained in Kathak, the Indian classical art of storytelling under her guru Shiva Mathur in houston, TX as well as ballet/contemporary under various teachers including the english national ballet’s kerry nicholls, Amita is currently working on her own body language which gains inspiration from the ideologies and techniques of both styles, while creating story-driven work in both independent and commercial spaces. CREDITS INCLUDE YRF’S DDLJ MUSICAL, NBC-UNIVERSAL’s outfest, new york black arts festival’s aladdin AS WELL AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE new choreographer grant by the Eryc Taylor dance company WITH HER KATHAK-INSPIRED WORK “INERTIA,” HAVING PREMIERED AT MARTHA GRAHAM THEATER IN NYC. Founded in Santa Monica in 1993, The Artists Gallery is an artist-founded and operated not-for-profit arts cooperative. TAG’s mission encourages the exploration of new media, techniques, styles, and content, to support artists and add culture to our community, and the world at large.
