WHAT IS DANCE IN THE CITY PRESENTS ECHOES IN PLACE?

Dance in the City Presents Echoes in Place is a site-specific live dance show taking place at the Madrid Theater in Canoga Park on Saturday, July 25. The show is choreographed & directed by storytelling choreographer, Amita Batra.

The show is rooted in the concept of the eucalyptus tree as an immigrant. The eucalyptus tree, embedded in the everyday scenery of Canoga Park, is actually not native to the region. The eucalyptus tree is an “immigrant” from Australia. Much like the eucalyptus many residents have immigrant roots and ties but are essential to the city’s ecosystem. The show is a celebration of Canoga Park’s inhabitants told through this metaphor of the eucalyptus tree.

WHAT KIND OF DANCERS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

The show is rooted in a body language that draws inspiration from modern / contemporary dance as well as Indian Classical styles like Kathak. Experience in either of those styles is encouraged but not required. We are looking for strong, bold movers who have a strong sense of self and ability to emote through movement.

IS THIS A PAID OPPORTUNITY?

Yes, each dancer will receive a flat stipend in addition to professional footage of their work.
