Boundless by Amita, an LA-Based dance company rooted in Indian & western dance practices, presents "Chaal" (transl. human/animal motion), an immersive dance show curated in a live art gallery choreographed/directed by Amita Batra with music ranging from a variety of music artists from the South Asian subcontinent and South Asian diaspora. The show will consist of both interactive art exhibits (such as live painting using human movement and breath, moving sculptures formed by dancers, and reflection of patrons through dance) featuring dancers as well as a formal dance show.
Human movement conveys stories of our diverse journeys and background. Because the style of this movement stems from Indian-inspired body language rooted in Kathak, the Indian classical art of storytelling as well as modern/contemporary movement, it often gets overlooked or put in the "ethnic" category. However, its merit, history, and ability to appeal to humanity is both powerful and relevant today to humanity. Chaal aims to explore our stories through our language while breaking this stereotype through its existence.
